My Government..

Growing up as a child in elementary school through high school I learned about government. I listened and believed everything my teacher’s had to say about government-without question. I’ll admit at times I was more interested with what vigorous workouts awaited us in football class. Government almost seemed flawless the way my teachers talked about it.
Today, I can honestly say that government is far from perfect. There are so many issues regarding how money should and should not be spent. Many businesses that were once power houses are declaring bankruptcy, and not to mention how every school district in Texas are on the verge of cutting jobs and preventing the children from succeeding. The government should also do something to protect the Mexico/Texas border. I’m not talking about keeping illegal aliens out-that should be the least of our worries. I’m talking about the drug war going on down south. Honestly it’s only a matter of time before it crosses all of Texas.  As we have seen in the news, El Paso has already felt the impact, and so has Brownsville when one of their special agents was ambushed and murdered in cold blood. It seems like the only thing the government and news have to say is “avoid Mexico at all cost”.
It also seems like the only thing going up are the gas prices. As a Texan, I know I don’t have it as bad as California and Miami already paying $5 a gallon. The government should in some way reduce taxes on gas or even tap the oil reserve in my opinion. As a kid I always imagined we would already have flying cars by now, instead it looks like bicycles or tiny smart cars.
I’m not sure where we are headed to in the future; I hope things turn around for the better. It’s amusing hearing talks about the world ending in 2012, for some the world is already ending; take the poor people in Japan earthquake. I hope the government and president can dig this country out of the hole we are in before the transformers invade earth!

  1. I agree with you completely, I also did my topic on government spending, and its just sad how the government is taking away jobs from the people that our educating us. I mean doesn't the United States need more educated people to help us get out of deficit. Its not fair that the government takes money from the people that need it and not they people who don't. People are just not informed on what the government is actually doing, and that is the problem, not enough people know to fight it. The most people do is complain.
I do also believe that we need to help mexico out, I mean we can't be scared of our next door neighbors, we have to go in their and settle with the drug cartel before it gets worst. Its just sad that their drug cartel is Law and anyone who doesn't follow them is dead. It just seems like our government doesn't want to get involved in other peoples problems when we have our own.
On the topic of gas, we do need a new invention other than the smart car, because not everyone wants to drive something that looks like a mouse, especially in Texas with everyone having trucks, its just not safe to have one of those. We need some kind of alternative fuel so we don't have to rely on other countries to give us gas, and that way we can set a price on our own, instead of the gas companies telling us what price to pay.
Overall our government and people of the United States need help, and if we can all just work together instead of fighting over who's party is better, maybe we can actually solve some problems that we are facing today.

  2. A response to the blog "Change is all I have left" and his post "My government...":
I would have to agree with you about the fact that our government is truly going nowhere but down. We need to change something fast, or we will be so far in debt and trouble that we won’t be able to get out. There are many things the government could do to fix this problem too, but I think people on the Right and the Left are at times too stubborn to do what is better for the country as a whole. People are so concerned about re-election and standing up for their party’s policies that it gets a little out of hand at times. If our politicians want us to get out of this crisis we are in, then they are going to have to ease up and work together.

When it comes to the border control, I think any Texan would have to agree with out. The drug cartels are becoming so overwhelmingly powerful, and it doesn’t help that they are literally starting to make their way into our country. Seeing as how Juarez is considered to be the second most dangerous city in the world, it is not comforting to know that it is pretty much connected to El Paso. Drug violence has become so alarmingly high recently that maybe it’s time to consider using more military force on the borders. When it comes to illegal aliens, I do actually think that we should strengthen our borders to make it much harder to illegally cross the border. For either situation though, we need to change something, and we need to do it fast.

The gas situation can also be frustrating at times. Perhaps the best way to deal with this would to just put a price ceiling on gas. Oil companies are already making enough money as it is, and I think this would be the best way to deal with the price. Perhaps the government could put the ceiling at $4 or $3.50. It would; however, be extremely difficult to do this, but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.

Our government is truly going through some rough times right now, and I really don’t know how our politicians will successfully handle it. It’s starting to look like we got too comfortable being the most powerhouse of the world, and it’s going to take a large hit for us to realize it. Perhaps that hit will be in 2012 when world ends, or when there are supposed to be extreme disasters all over. Maybe after a situation like that our government won’t get us into this situation again.

  3. I would have to agree with you 100%. I mean our country is heading in a very wrong direction. we are far from being perfect. Our vision is becoming more and more hazy and we are doing nothing to stop it. It really doesnt make sense how we afford the loss of teachers in the education business. More and more teachers and getting calls or letters about being terminated this up coming year. For some it is heart breaking because that is what they live for. They find pleasure in teaching our youth, and very much so find pride in their line of work. To give higher personal higher wages and giving them a bonus here and there doesnt make sense. Yes i do understand that some people like Superintendent of Schools and the Chief Financial Officer do deserve a little more pay then a regular school teacher. But do they really deserve a bonus, when others are fighting to have even a job?

Also about the drug war happening down in south texas, i believe that we should do more to protect our borders. Yes we do have secruity, 110%. A better well kept border will ensure our but not to the max. iam not talking about over doing it, but we need to protect this country safety.
